93 Escort stereo problems
So we bought a 93 Escort to take the XJ's DD spot and allow it to become a trail rig/backup vehicle. It had no radio in it when we bought it so I bought a wiring adapter and put one of my 3 extra head units in. Powered up, no sound. Ok, maybe it got dropped and is dead, installed second one. Powered up, no sound... Ok, bad luck and it's dead too... Installed third one. Powered up, no sound...
If I held the plug just right, it worked, so I know the head unit worked. I assumed the factory plug was junk and just hard wired it thinking it would work. Negative. I now have a head unit that powers up, finds radio stations, and acts like it's playing, but no sound. If I hook a speaker up at the head unit, it plays, so I know there is signal coming out to go to the speakers.
Everything I can find on the internet says that the factory amp needs to be bypassed, but I do not have the premium sound package that includes the amp. My harness goes straight back and up into the dash.
What is really throwing me for a loop is that when I held the plug just right, it played, but now being bypassed I get nothing... I really don't want to have to rewire the speakers, but I guess if it comes to that I have no other option.
