2002 Liberty Cold Starting (below freezing)

I have a 2002 Liberty 3.7L . When it is below freezing, especially way below like 10 degrees or so. It will always start right away zoom to 1300 or so rpm then die. Every time or 99% of the time.

After it starts I can apply some gas pedal to it to keep it at 1500 rpm and slowly let off the pedal and it will (if i let off slow enough) catch and idle as usual.

What would cause a condition such as this?

Edit: Hoping a Jeep tech out there has seen this problem enough times at work to say with "he It is this...." or likely this. I read many posts on various sites and found no help at all, actually most answers were quite ridiculous, like bad battery. Obviously the battery is doing its job else it would not start or especially over and over again.

I am thinking something having to do with either the computer unde4rstanding the temperature or a faulty idle mechanism that cold weather is affecting? But that is just a guess?
