1999 Isuzu Amigo lift question

A friend of mine has just acquired an Isuzu Amigo in pretty good nick and asked me a bunch of questions about lifting it, since I am apparently the knower of all things 4x4. I was surprised to discover it apparently has a solid front axle...anyway, he wants to put a lift on this thing, but for cheap. I suggested he look into AAL's for the rear, but he wants to put lift blocks on it.

I recall something from when I first joined CF about lift blocks being bad. Axle wrap, axle hop or something? I'm trying to tell him why it's bad, but I can't recall the specifics.

Thanks, that pretty well answered the question. He wanted to put blocks on the rear axle, and when I finally got to look at the thing discovered it has coils instead of leafs so that was kind of a moot point.

Have him check the frame before he dumps any money into it. Those things have a worse reputation for rust than Jeeps do. There was even a factory recall due to frame rot.

look the frame over good!!

How much lift is he wanting? Amigos are pretty easy to lift if it's only a few inches. Crank the front torsion bars and either get some spacers for the rear or some new coils. Independent4x4 used to make a good kit. (I used to own an Isuzu).

I wonder how much lift does he want?

I think he wanted just a couple of inches which is why he was talking about blocks. I've since talked to him and he's decided to leave it mostly stock and let his girl drive it while he saves for a TJ.
