1989 4runner v6 questions
I was told by the owner that it has a blown head gasket they came to this conclusion because the vehicle idles at 800rpms instead of 4-500. Is it possible that the head gaskets is fine? Iv never heard of a head gasket causing this issue and thought it was normal for older vehicles to idle around 800. The 4runner is 4x4 5speed with the 3.0l v6 in it.

I honestly have no idea lol, is the oil milky? I would see if the head gasket is in fact dead, if not I would look somewhere else like vacuum hoses, sensors etc. if it is (or isn't) look for something else that isn't a Toyota lol.

I see a ton of self diagnosed head gasket failures, some are right but a lot are wrong. If the only symptom is the high idle then I would say no.
Typical headgasket failure symptoms are listed, sometimes just one or more of these. Losing/using coolant, misfires, overheating, smoking out of the tail pipe. coolant in the oil, oil in the coolant, boiling or bubbling in the radiator. BTW the idle speed spec is in fact 800 RPM. |
