Throttle body and IAC cleaning

19 Attachment(s)
This was done on a 97 Sport 4.0l so some of the particulars like torque values may be different. Make sure you double check any specifics to your make and model.

Things you will need: 10mm wrench/socket, T-20 torx socket, flat blade screwdriver, TBI gasket, TBI cleaner, various brushes, a zip tie, and an inch-lbs torque wrench.

First things first: Get yourself a friend to help you. This is an important step, and not to be overlooked...haha!

Next, remove the intake hose from the air cleaner to the TB, use a flathead screwdriver to loosen clamps..

Then remove all the cables and connectors going to the TB, use a small flat screwdriver to pop the clips...red arrows are your cables, yellow for sensors...

Remove the 4 10mm bolts that hold the TB to the intake:

Use the zip tie to hold open the butterfly valve on the TB

Then clean the opened TB with brushes and TB cleaner, a couple of pics of when it is done...don't mind the bits of debris on the valve, hadn't blown out with compressed air yet.

Now that you are all cleaned, put your IAC back on and torque the screws to 60" lbs (at least that's what my FSM said, your year and model may vary)
Attachment 409832

You are ready to reassemble, take the rag out of the manifold, place your new gasket, then the TB, and finger tighten the 4 bolts that hold the TB in place, and torque to 100" lbs, again your year and model may vary...

Then re-attach all your cables and connectors
Attachment 409834

and put your intake hose back on

Then take your friend who helped you for a ride!!!
