Renix C101 Delete
The following is advanced electrical work, so if you are not comfortable
chopping an automotive wiring harness in half, then maybe this isn't for you. Whats a C101 you ask? Installed on 87 through 89 Cherokee's Its that large plastic connector located above your brake booster. Borrowed from Cruiser54: The C101 connector on 1987 and 1988 Renix Jeeps was a source of electrical resistance when the vehicles were new. So much so that the factory eliminated this connector in the 1989 and 1990 models. The factory recommended cleaning this connector to insure the proper voltage and ground signals between the ECU and the fuel injection sensors. We can only imagine how this connector has become a larger source of voltage loss and increased resistance over a period of almost 25 years. The C101 connector needs to be cleaned at least once in the lifetime of your vehicle. Chances are it’s never been done before. OK Lets get 'er done. I recently inspected my C101 connector, and was appalled at the condition. The "cleaning" trick was not going to cut it, the contacts where terrible, and after 24 years the waterproof "goop" was now plastic. So I read around the net awhile, and found that people were simply cutting out the unit entirely. Most of the "Engine" end of the harness was Fuel management, so if I have to pull the engine someday, I would just disconnect the fuel-rail. Tools/Supply's: Plenty of Heat-shrink tubing in various sizes. Solder. Solder gun/wand. Zip-ties. Wire Cutters. Wire-strippers. In my enthusiasm, I failed to check all the colors of the wiring, and didn't see that there were 3 Tan ones! In order to get it right (and you HAVE to, unless you like "letting the smoke out" of your Computer/Wiring) I simply unplugged the ECU, and back-powered the wires I wasn't sure about, comparing pin numbers with schematic, and light probed 'em. Whew! If the bare wire is dull looking, shine it up with emery cloth. After checking Schematic, it was apparent that they were for an Automatic transmission equipped model.
