*This was made while the exhaust was already off, its pretty simple to take off. I will do a write-up sometime of taking it off also.
*Your possibly going to want to pressure spray everything because it will make it much easier.

Tool List

• 3/8 ratchet
• 3/8 extentions (you can use 1/2" ratchets, your choice)
• Jack stands
• Jacks
• Sockets Sizes:8mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 16mm, 17mm, 19mm
• 19mm wrench

Note: Some sizes will vary because I have already changed some bolts and do not know the original sizes. This was also done on a '95 XJ with 2WD Automatic transmission

To start off you should disconnect the battery because we're taking the starter off. You should place your transmission in park and put your Emergency Brake on.
After you have disconnected your battery grab your sockets sizes, 8, 12, 13, 14, and 17 mm.
The pictures will show you what size socket goes where.




Next your going to drain the fluid from your transmission. In the mean time, un-plug your electrical connections and transmission cooler lines.

Passengers side of engine.


Driver side of engine. You can either unbolt the CPS from the bell housing now or just unplug it.



Throttle body cable.



Now your going to un-bolt the bolts on your bellhousing. The pictures show what sizes go where.






*Note: The 2 top bolts are reportedly a reverse or inverted Torx screw(size E14 I beleive). To get these top bolts it will make it easier if you go ahead and secure your transmission up on your jack.



You must take off the bolts connecting the flywheel to the torque converter, there are 4 of these bolts. You can take off the dust guards to make this easier.




I went to Harbor Freight's website and ordered a transmission jack it was only $80 and it works perfectly.


Once secure you can un-bolt your Transmission Crossmember. Bolts are on the left and right side of the frame. You might as well take the whole crossmember off while your here. The 4 nuts are in the middle of the transmission crossmember.





Now you can lower your transmission a little. Grab some extentions and possibly a swivel attachment. Those top bolts should come right out now!

Once you have taken the top bolts out and are sure everything is disconnected, you can jack it back up a little to even it out. Gently and slowly slide the transmission away from the engine and lower the jack and pull it out!!


BE CAREFUL THE TRANSMISSION IS REALLY HEAVY AND CAN CRUSH YOU!
