Flag Holder

3 Attachment(s)
I've seen a couple of threads on here about how people fly a flag on their rig for flag holidays such as Independence Day, Veterans Day e.t.c. But, I've always wondered myself as to how to make one. So, I wandered through Home Depot with my little wheels turning and made to the Conduit section. the metal was WAY to malleable so it was time to head to the pipe section. And then it goes from there

Materials
  • 60" long X 3/4" Galvanized pipe (threaded) {$12-$15}
  • A reducer from 3/4" to 1/2" {~$2}
  • 1/2" pipe cap X2 {~$1 for each}
  • 1/2"x1.5" threaded galvanized extender(?). I don't remeber the name but it's like a small peice of galvanized pipe 1.5" long that is threaded along it's length {~$1)
  • 5/16 eye bolts (X2). Wal-Mart for about {~$2}
  • Ball hitch minus the ball (HOLE MUST BE 3/4") {unsure about the price cause I got mine for free}
  • JB WELD (Optional) {$4}

    TOTAL: $30 (JB WELD ACCOUNTED FOR)
  • And of course, the flag of you choice. The American Flag at Wal-Mart ran me about {$7}. And, it's MADE IN AMERICA!!!! :flag:

So, lets get started. There won't be many pics since I wasn't originally going to do a "write-up." But, it's pretty simple.

Start by assembling the main "mast."

Either end of the pipe is fine, but take the reducer and screw the 3/4" side onto the 3/4" galvanized pipe.

Take your 1.5" x 1/2" and screw one end into the 1/2" side on the reducer.

Now, this part is trial and error on your part. The ball hitch receiver is about 1" thick where the ball screws into. You galvanized pipe extender is 1.5" inches long. So, your gonna have to do some grinding on your part on the pipe extender so there is a snug fit.

Once you have ground down the extender, put the extender/pipe/reducer assembly into the 3/4" hole on the hitch. Then screw the pipe cap onto the other side.

The second pipe cap you put on the top of the mast so water doesn't get inside etc.

Now, take the flag of your choice and measure the distance between each rivet. Mine were 32.25" apart from each other.

Now, drill two holes, 5/16" big, [insert the distance between rivets here] away from each other centered on the pipe. and of course drill through both sides of the pipe. Put both eye bolts in, screw nut on the other side and attach flag. I'm using zip ties.

finally, fly your flag proudly! :flag:

OPTIONAL!!!!

You can jb weld the pipe assembly to the hitch part incase you can't get a snug enough fit.
