That's for the 1993-1995 models... the 1996-1998 models had a different module.

Hi Bustedback, i would like to thank you for all your help and happy thanksgiving.
I have checked the entire length and width of the overhead console and on the console only one breach (of the headliner material that covers 2/3 of the overhead consoles exterior) and it is centered middle windshield (upper). It is simply a hole. Not trimmed in a bezel just a hole. It feels like a Philips head med?
Nothing on the dash that i can identify as being a receiver.

The '96-'98 had the square-shaped keyfob with three buttons: the unlock button, the lock button, and a red panic button, and was Radio Frequency (RF)-based. The module for it is probably the same module as the power door locks, and unfortunately, I don't know where that is.

Regardless, though, your Jeep DID have keyless entry, as ALL '95-'98 ZJ's came STANDARD with it... you just need to purchase the remote, but I think it has to be programmed by a dealer or a locksmith.

Good luck!

Hi Vince "94zj318", Have been checking the junk yards for the possible remotes. It is very very helpful knowing the shape and function of the correct remote. Thanks.

Fobs can only be programmed to your vehicle by a dealer. Mine wanted a hundred bucks with a 2 month wait. The fob seller confirmed that before I purchased it , but I believed otherwise .
Hi blueseasons, great info. It sounds almost too easy. I think i may go see if any jeep dealerships mechanics do any moon lighting. Thank You and hope you have a great Thanksgiving.
