My neighbor has a 97 grand (4.0L) with a weird starting problem that has been going on for 2 years. During the cold months of the year it will run just fine, but now since the weather has warmed up it has a really hard time starting, if it starts at all after its been sitting for a couple hours. Once its running though it runs just fine, sometimes it cuts out, but for the most part it runs good as soon as its going. If he runs to the store and parks it, then comes out a few minutes later it starts up just fine, but when he goes to work and it sits all day it has issues starting and sometimes it wont start at all. Like i said, in cool weather it had no problems, but now that its hot outside it has issues. It did the same thing last year. We just replaced the fuel pump, its been taken to several mechanics and they can't figure it out, any ideas? Thanks

need to see if it is losing fuel or spark during the no start condition. I had a similar problem on my zj with 5.2. It was cps

its not loosing fuel, we had a gauge on it, and we replaced the fuel pump... so i'm guessing its the cps.

What do the battery terminals look like. I had a very similar issue in my XJ and it turned out I had bad battery connectors. After installing new battery connectors it has started like a dream. If they are looking bad or even worse, those painted black and red check ones make sure no red or black paint is melting down between the terminal and the connector causing a bad connection.
