ZJ on 35s
 

What is everyone doing to make the drivetrain survive on 35s? Im not worried about the lift or flex, I can make that all work. Just wondering what everyone is upgrading drivetrain wise to handle 35s. Just upgraded to u-joint style axle shafts? I currently have a blown out rf cv axle shaft so need to fix that anyways.

This is just an offroad rig so dont have to worry about driving on the street.

You could swap a high pinion dana 30 from a xj.

If you have the D35 in the back you shouldn't count on it lasting long with 35" tires. The D44a is a little stronger, but there isn't much aftermarket support for it. You can swap in a Ford 8.8 with some welding. The hp D30 out of an XJ is about 30% stronger than the low pinion D30 and should handle 35s if you're easy on the skinny pedal.

rear is a d44 welded.

Front axle I might be able to snag from a buddy of mine who has an xj sitting around if he doesnt end up selling the whole thing.

Only issue is this is an offroad rig and im not always light on the throttle at times.

If you got the cash and time 1 ton axles are nice to have,And you can go to 37s or even 40s if you build up the axles to handle them.

The HPD30 will not only give you more strength but more clearance also. I didn't see you mention an SYE you may have but a good one is needed for that much tire and lift.


Use of the skinny peddle will tell you where else you to see serious upgrades.

Just curious about what your going to do for the 35's lift wise.. Going to a LA setup?

You pretty much have to go to long arms in order to get enough lift for 35s.

That was the info I saw upon a quick look.. Seems like 5" and LA's in about he minimum. Bump stops seem a bit more mandatory than the XJ's too.. I guess theres "added" flex with the coil rear and less trimming options with ZJ's/WJ's right?

The front has lots of room to trim. Not so much in the rear, the doors get in the way. A ZJ does surprisingly well off road bone stock. A lift and tires really helps without doing much more.

Is the 44 the stock axle that came in the Jeep? If so you are asking for trouble. 35s on a open 44a will snap shafts if you have a heavy foot.
