Default wtf is the problem

idk wtf is wrong with this POS...99 laredo 4.0, stalling randomly when i was coming to a stop, and when id be driving down the road...the rpms would drop and it would jerk real hard before it would stall, and it was a pain in the *** to get started again. light came on for the cam pos. sensor, replaced it the lights still off but still was having the problem, and now it wont start it all...i can hear fuel pump priming, its turning over fine just not starting, starters fine battery is fine. no CEL idk what else to look for...

Just because you can hear the fuel pump dosent mean its building good pressure. I would check the pressure with the key on and with it running if you can get it started

i have a 94 cherokee sport thats having stalling or shutdown issues. it does have a small gas leak in the gas tank tho. i just did a complete tune up on it bout two months ago. ill be driving and it will just shutdown. sometimes itll start right back up in neautral or other times i have to pull over for 5 to 10 mins before it will start up again. im a tech at a local garage and just cnt figure it out. maybe the ecm is getting too hot and shuting it down, cnt be a tune up issue ive double checked my work. maybe the gas leak, or something i just cnt think of. an help or suggestions would be gladly appreiated.

thats EXACTLY what mine is doing, sometimes itll start right back up and sometimes it takes 20 min. i changed the fuel filter although what came out of it was black i though that was it and no. i guess i need to check for fuel pressure now, if it was having a spark problem wouldnt it throw a code? i have a feeling it has to do with the computer, but idk...idk how to check that?? its soo damn aggrivating though

well ive talked to some co workers of mine and idk if theres a way to diagnose if the computer is going bad or getting to hot. but i might try replacing it anyways. its just a big expensive part just to throw at it.

I would replace the crank sensor before throwing a new PCM at it., The crank sensor is a hell of a lot cheaper.

Try the crankshaft sensor, was the problem when my 2001 Cherokee wouldn't start all of a sudden. Part cost me about $90 and wasn't to hard to replace myself. I have read they usually go out at around 140000 miles ( atlases for a Cherokee, but maybe similar on your car)

There are write ups on here how to replace, I would say 50 percent of people that has owned a jeep for more then a year has replaced one. I did one on my 94 5.2 liter, now that was fun, could never see the sensor till it was out in my hand. Never seen one throw a code, have seen them go bad so the vehical wont start, or, in my case, if it got hot underthe hood it wouldnt start till it cooled down for a while. Take one second of your time and check spark. only takes a second.

Pulll a plug wire off and stick your finger in it while someone cranks.... or the safer method is pull plug wire off and put a old plug in and have someone crank.
