WJ.. what's up with this?
Anyone familiar with WJ's? Got this pic in an email requesting quote for repair. He stated his transfercase was "blown up" but now looking close at the pic i think it may just be a broken front driveshaft? Thoughts?
Anyone have a pic of a complete front WJ shaft for comparison?

Suppose I could at least get some of the front DS and toss them up for comparison purposes.
Dont know if it matters but the WJ thats accessible is a 4.7L V8...and again its a 99'

I dont have the vehicle, just the pic.
If you could snap a pic that'd be awesome, compare it to this. I think the circular part to the right is bolted to the output flange, and the shaft seperated behind it. This is also a 4.7 V8 with the fulltime 4wd case.

If you could snag some better pics of that, I will be able to get under a 99 WJ tomorrow in the shop...and take some pics of whats there for you.

Hey overland, I checked it out, it IS the same flange that connects front DS to the T-case. It has the telltale of the little tab looking things, which are visible on the picture you have. I think i may have caught them too, theyre off my phone so theyre a little crappy lol.
Hope that helps!

It looks like he just lost the snap ring off the end of the shaft. Those type of joints are like CV joints on front axle shafts. The shaft and the part that goes on the end and inside the joint are made separately and assembled later. There is a little snap ring that compresses when it is pushed together. Putting it back together may just be a new boot and snap ring. The real question is why it came apart in the first place.

Easy fix: Axle yoke from any D30.. When you unbolt from the T-case you'll be able to bolt up any XJ/ZJ/MJ U-joint style drive shaft.
I've fixed more than a few this way...
