WJ '99 rocker panels and trims crossover (Laredo to Limited))
 

Hello,

My WJ '99 limited V8 has quite a bit of rust (and some holes) on the rocker panels.
I am planning on cleaning everything, welding in some patches if needed, and applying POR15.

What I worry (or rather, my wife worries) about, is the final look, which will be quite amateurish given my very limited welding and painting skills.

This is why I was wondering if I could install the Laredo rocker panel plastic trims (not the door ones).
Is it feasible?
Do you think it could improve the looks?
And lastly, given that my dear WJ is burgundy, which color would be the best?
I've seen lots of gray trims, but I think I've spotted some black as well at my local junkyard (the great Fox Autoparts)

Any advice, comment or suggestion is welcome.

It took quite a while, but I finally managed.
The rocker panel plastic trims from the Laredo fit perfectly the Limited as far as length is concerned.
They also wrap around the edges snugly.

The only two things that are slightly off, but not in a visible way, are:
1) The lip used to attach the trim to the Laredo through the rectangular plastic clips.
On the Limited, the lip goes roughly up to above the thin weather strip, and there are no holes to stick the clips into. My workaround has been to use 4 flat head metal sheet self tappinng screws (could have added washers, but the heads seem to hold well enough). Do keep the rectangular clips, cut the feet off and use the rectangles to fill the holes on the trim lip, gluing them. It makes it look a bit better.

2) The front wheel mud guards, if you have them.
With the plastic trim added, the original Limited front mud guards do not fit anymore. The best way is to install the Laredo ones.

To sum things up, when you go get the trims at the junkyard, do get the mudguards too (if you can find them), and the rectangular clips!
