Winter oil?
Hi, i'm using Castrol part syntetic GTX 10W-40 today, fresh for 2 months ago. Should i change for the winter, the temperatur in the winter is down to -30C (-22F). Could i use full syntetic on this old engine? The car dont have any block heater.

10w oil could be considered a little thick for a -30 climate or extreme cold, most charts will rate it down to -20* though. If you have a lot of cold weather at temps below freezing then you may want to consider a lighter oil and maybe even a synthetic or blend for winter time. something like a 5w30 or 5w40 should be fine.

You will be fine. I've ran 15-40 in my Jeeps during the winters here in Northern MN and it is known to get -40* C and colder. When the time comes to change the oil go to something lighter like 5-40 or even 5-30. I run what I have in the garage. Usually lots of 10-40 and 15-40 sitting around because of our equipment.

I would just run the recommended weight your vehicle calls for. And no don't use synthetics. There isn't anything special about that stuff. I've used standard oil in both my Jeeps and never had a problem. Synthetics just have a bunch of extra detergents you don't really need.
A bit of advice on the colder climate though. Start your vehicle at least 10-15 minutes before you have to leave. Helps to warm everything up. I've done this the past 3-4 years since I got into Jeeps and it's nice and toasty when you hop in.. or maybe, invest in a remote start. Those help too.
