Whats the best size tire for a stock 94 for good gas mileage?

I'd try the P215/75/15 tires, they're skinny and small which = good mpg's.

Give these a try. I had them on my XJ for about a month and a half before I moved to a set of BFG A/T 31s, they got me awesome mileage!

yea thats probably the route im gonna go because im about to start a build on my XJ pretty soon and the gc will be my dd and when we visit the wifes family its almost 1000 miles round trip so im lookin to squeeze every little bit i can on mpg

Yeah go with the BFG's they're a great tire manufacturer and their tires have lasted the longest out of any other manufacturer i've used.

On the driver side door edge should be a sticker with the "recommended" stock size tire, and tire pressure. Manufacturer recommended size would give you the best mileage because when they roll these off the line they are fitted with a combination that makes them most attractive to buyers & the mileage & EPA ****. Brand & type of tire would be entirely up to you. If you asked I'd recommend Bridgestone Revo - but you didn't ask .

To sorta answer your question, my '98 ZJ (5.9L) came with 245 or 255/70/16 stock. All this talk about "215" is news to me. ZJ tires were bigger than XJs.

The stock tire for a ZJ when they were sold in dealerships were Goodyear Wranglers, 225/70/r16.

The tires my 4.0 has are Kumho soulus 225/75/r15. They are really good in the rain, and suprisingly did well in 3 feet of snow last year and didnt slip on the ice we had that coverd the roads yesturday. We get great gas mileage on them too. Last summer i did alot of driving in the city and suburbs and i got 17mpg average from the tank, and the computer reading, on the freeway i easily get 23mpg at 65mph. We have had em for like 4 years now and the tire tread is still really good. They are cheap too, and have good ratings. ZERO road noise

So if i were you i would buy a set of these.

One tire i recomend not getting are these. My 5.9 had them when i bought it 3-4 months ago, and they looked like great tires, had a mean looking tread on them and they do good in the rain and normal driving. However once it snowed out i slid all over the place with them, they are terrible in the snow. I checked out the reviews and ppl said the same thing, 5 stars for everything but snow/ice and tread wear. However since they were brand spanking new on the 5.9 i havent replaced em. Just gonna use em till they wear out and get better ones

I'm surprised. I had the Firestone Destination on my Durango for a couple years up until 2 weeks ago (or are they on the Tundra now?). Either way, they were on one of our trucks & still are if it's the Tundra. Never had a problem with them in either last year's or this year's NE blizzards.

As for ZJ tire size ... I could be mistaken about the 245 being stock. It's been years ... But 255 is def what I had on there before I sold it because my Revos are the only set of street tires I have ever purchased new ... you tend to remember your first . There was no rubbing either, and I had them swapped onto my Durango when I bought that. But I am sure that they never came with 215s.

Yea as stated 225/75 R15 were stock and you had the option of running 235/75 R15 from the factory. Mine came with 225/75's

Dude chill ... by 215 I mean 215x70x16 or whatever ... 215 being the tire width. You're talking about wheel diameter. 2 different things. In your example, your 225 is the tire width. So you're saying pretty much the same thing I am.

I have 245/75/15 on stock suspension (98 ZJ)... Looks good.

Don't forget, guys, The middle number (ie 75) is the percentage of width in height above the rim, so a 225/70R16 is about the same diameter as a 225/75R15. I still haven't figured out the inch series system yet, as in 31X10.5R15. What does the 31 mean? Is it overall tire height?
