Hi, i have a 93 with AW-4 and somene says i need dexron II, but someone said that i must use ATF+3 ? I did find a service manual and that say mercon or dexron II, but what to use?

The current equivalent to dextron/mercon II,(not sure offhand what it is as I havnt bought trans fluid in a while, read the bottles) DO NOT USE ATF+ anything in the AW4.

you are in grand cherokee tech, is it a grand cherokee? if so it is not an aw4

1993 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L has AW4. I think thats why someone did recomend ATF, they dont know that the 1993 did have AW4.

Im not sure if it was a few years or just one (93) but they most certainly did mate aw4's to the 4.0 in the gc.

Huh, yeah, I've never seen one, even running a tranny shop lol. Probably because they don't break. In out shop we used mercon III in them. Any of the atf+ fluid is fine also. just extra friction modifers etc.

Recommended is Mercon, Dexron II can be used if Mercon is not available. Per the 93 ZJ repair manual.

dex 3...pobably had dIII on the transmission plug as well .
