what to look for when buying a 99' grand

A friend emailed me about buying a 99 grand Cherokee. I'm an xj guy. Pros and con's to this year please. Insight, and experiences of things to check for when buying a 99 grand.
Thanks

Rust is the number one concern if you're in the rust belt. Maintenance records are another thing you want to look for, especially if it has the 4.7 V8. The 4.7 will not take abuse like the I6 can. Make sure everything works and test drive it long enough to get the engine and transmission up to operating temperature. If the seller has the Jeep running when you go to look at it be suspicious of starting problems or battery problems. Look at the tires. If it needs tires you can count on at least 600 bucks will have to be put into your new purchase. Don't let things like a sound system be a selling point, they don't add value and can often be an electrical problem waiting to happen. Listen for clunks and rattles, could mean the suspension will need work.
