Default What exactly is the death wobble?

I have searched and I can't seem to find any information on exactly what the death wobble is. My 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo seems to be having a problem with wandering--I feel like I am always correcting it while driving. Is this the infamous death wobble?

no that would not be the death wobble, yours sounds more like the alignment is off.

The Death wobble is from a number of things:
tie rods, bushings, alignment, tire balancing, wheel bearings etc..

The death wobble is where the vehicle shakes erratically and scares the crap out of you. Mine does it horrible from 60mph+ and mildly from 40-60mph

No, its a violent shaking at the steering wheel that feels like your arms are about to get torn from your shoulders.

My understanding of death wobble is that its usually caused (or at least made much worse) by lifting without correcting your caster angle (the tilt of your front axle forward or backward). By lifting your front end without extending your lower control arms, your front axle is tilted forward more than it should be causing the steering to be way too light (for the lack of a better term).

Bad tie rods, bushings, alignment, tire balancing, wheel bearings etc. will of course make it worse.

Had an experience once with death wobble. I'm sure a lot of things cause it, but i will tell you that it doesn't always have to be a modification that causes it. I was driving a completely stock F-250 when it happened to me. hit a pot hole in the road and the steering rack took over. Pretty sure it is caused from worn parts or missalignment which gives you slack in the steering system. Wobble was so bad it ripped a citizen watch right off my arm. had to come to a complete stop to "reset" the steering system. pretty dangerous stuff.

I've seen the death wobble on a Cherokee driving next to me on the freeway and had it myself. It looks as bad as feels in the wheel! Scares the yit of you both ways. Cant be good on other steering components. Like the other guy said though yours is most likely and alignment issue. The death wobble is an insane shaking for a short period.
