What does it mean when engine barely revs?

What does it mean when you take off in the morning and sometimes your jeep barely revs when trying to accelerate? 4.7 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo.

How is the throttle response in neutral?

How quickly does the vehicle slow / stop when not pressing the gas pedal?

Maybe it needs some coffee...

Cleman Simpson 11-02-2016 12:15 PM

most likely the throttle position sensor is going bad

It's possible your brakes are dragging a little in the morning. Do you use the e-brake?

Does it get any warm-up time before "when you take off in the morning"? I let mine run in neutral for ~5 minutes first. Otherwise I'm with Cleman on this one. But maybe there's something you can do about cleaning the TB and IAC before throwing the Benjamins at it. If you do go for a TPS then do yourself a favor and get original equipment.

AH, somebody listens to me! Warming it up in neutral softens those old hard o-rings and allows them to seal before being required to function.

Yeah Dave, similar to yours, my WJ's PO was/is a snowbird who treated it like a puff. You and I both know that those long periods of sitting stored-away in the garage can be bad for the N-Bunas. Like us, they age and wear better with regular duty. Thanks again for that little gem, for reminding me of it. Anyway, back to this cold engine not revving-up...

Hey Easywolf32! I still want to know what happens after a "proper" warm-up interval.
