Found this axle under a 1998 grand Cherokee with 4x4 full time and quadtrac .... Please look at photos I have and let me know .... PLEASE help me identify this axle .... Dana 44? Dana 60? .... It's got a Dana stamp on it and that's all I know

If its the stock axle then it's a Dana 44 but it looks like a Dane 60. Here's a reference chart.

That is definitely not a D60, and not a D44, it is the stock D44a.

A is for aluminum.
If you have a GC with the I6 this would be your swap in bolt in replacement.

Your.8.25 is same. Upgrade for you would be the ford 8.8.

This 44 is like downgrade. Unless you had a d35. But would.need to be mod to.work it the xj. Much easier to.go 8.8

Ya I'm gonna grab the ford 8.8 .... I've read up on em and seem strong , I'll do the c clip elimination kit and be rockin

So another question ... What's lowest gears I can put in an 8.8 ?? I'd really like to run 5:13 and crawl

I would think the D30 would be the limiter on low ratios... last I heard the lowest was 4.88's and only a couple companys made them. but could be wrong.
