what is this about

Today I drove 30 miles and left the Jeep running. Came back to the Jeep temp was a little hot and oil pressure was low. Put it in drive and it died got it running was running real bad for 2 miles then straighted out. What could this be 1997 GCL 5.2

Maybe it just got hot from idling and the oil thinned out, and the fuel rails were also getting hot nearly causing vapor lock. You might want to flush the cooling system, check the radiator fins for blockage, make sure you have the correct 195 t-stat, check the serpentine belt for proper tension and wear, check the clutch fan for proper operation.

Could be a pickup coil problem causing the engine to stall and a weak fan clutch causing the extra heat.

Now it feels down on power doesn't want to take off to well. And it also make a grinding gear when you are sitting still in gear. To take off from a dead stop it was running 2000 rpms. Not sure what its deal is, but someone told me it sounded like my rear end was going out. It also shifts kinda ruff for 1st to 2nd gear tranny fluid was good when i checked 2 days ago any help would be great.

My 94 with 5.2 gave ALMOST the same symptons, except for the grinding issue. The Crank sensor fixed the running issues, then 2 weeks later I replaced the o2 sensor as maintaince (front o2) and it fixed my wierd jerky shifting problem I was having.

The crank sensor was getting heat soaked and causing it to stumble real bad till I got moving, once the cool air flowed over it, a min or two later, it would run fine again.
