bearing has gone bad its differential oil leaking due to bad axle seals. need to change the seals and bearings and probably change the dif oil.

Yup! He's exactly right. While your at it, do both sides or you will soon after anyway.

Thanks for the info , guess i know what my weekend project is, i know this wasnt there a week ago , i had a heavy load in my jeep over weekend and noticed some noise , thought it was the brakes. but they are good.

upon researching im guessing this dana 35 is a c clip axle , i found this video on youtube, by chance does this look like the correct method

dave1123 10-05-2016 02:52 PM

Yup,that's the one! If it wasn't stated in the video, put the cross shaft back in after you pull the c-clips to hold the planet gears in place. If you don't and the carrier gets moved, you can have the shims behind the gears move out of place or fall out, they're a PITA to get back in.

thats pretty much the process in the bleepin jeep video.

dave1123 10-05-2016 03:41 PM

Ah, see? I didn't watch the video! Bleepin' Jeep are good guys.

Would anyone happen to know the size of the wrench used to take the set pin out.

NewbJeep 10-06-2016 07:04 PM

5/16" IIRC

dave1123 10-07-2016 01:35 AM

12 point.

soulscapex 10-07-2016 06:38 AM

12 point 5/16 , ok thanks got to run to the store to grab one before i start this.

soulscapex 10-07-2016 07:24 AM

Im a bit confused , i was reading my service manual , are the bearings pressed on the axle shaft, and what about the seals .

NewbJeep 10-07-2016 07:43 AM

soulscapex 10-07-2016 09:44 AM

well that helps alot, thanks man, i have a seal puller , just need to dig around to find what size socket i could use to hammer these in

NewbJeep 10-07-2016 11:10 AM

Are you hammering in the bearings or seals? Bearings need the socket or reasonable facsimile and the seals just needs a light circular tap from a hammer
