Im trying to find out what the vin numbers mean on grand cherokees. I know I can look them up and they can tell me what that vehicle was built with, but I want to be able to go up to a cherokee and figure out what tranny or whatever is on that vehicle based on what the vin says. I know that some numbers or letters have meaning so what are they?

There's a link on here somewhere that explains what each number in each column means. But even easier you just tell the dealership the VIN # and they will print you off a two page "options report" sometimes called build codes list. It's no charge and even done over the phone. It has every detail. Good luck.
