vibration from rear when letting off accelorator
Hi everyone,
'01 GCL is getting a vibrating sound when i let off the gas. I'm thinking u-joints in the rear drive shaft. Any help would be great. I'm not very confident about doing this myself and I know you guys have helped me thru alot . Thanks in advance

It could also be the bearings in your rear. Do you have a Dana 35c or a Dana 44a? Before I swapped out my Dana 35 I had vibrations coming from the rear and it was my bearings

I would suspect the driveshaft u-joints because of your lift. The lift changed the drive angle and put more stress on the joints.

Put it in Park with the brake off. Have someone roll it back and forth while you watch the driveshaft and rear axle. Worn u-joints will be obvious because of the yokes moving when they shouldn't. Gear backlash will show up also. If everything's right, you shouldn't be able to more it at all.
It's more than likely a D35. Very unlikely for bearing to go on a 01 unless it's been whomped on.

Okay. From your post, it sounded like you had a 3" lift.

I don't know for sure, but I would think a tire would vibrate under any load, not just on deceleration. Likewise, I would think a gear problem would just create noise, not a vibration.

BE VERY CAREFUL replacing the pinion seal! There is a crush cup that preloads the two bearings and if it is overtorqued will destroy the bearings. Many rear ends have been destroyed this way. Anything done to an axle is critical. GET EXPERIENCED HELP!

well we figured out that it wasn't the diff its just seals and bearings on the axle shaft. the question i have is do the retainers( i think thats what they are called) that press down on the bearing come with the bearing? i cant seem to find bearings with the retainer ???
