I've seen some posts about this and found some good info about removing the VIC. Mine comes on and off randomly (mostly off) but it seems to keep track of the time/date and other functions when the display does decide to come on.
I removed the VIC (thanks to a post here with instructions--Thanks) and resoldered every single connection on the two circuit boards--I did find a few that definitely looked like cold/bad solder joints.
Anyway, that didn't correct the problem.
What I'm wondering is the VIC losing power completely due to a bad connection somewhere before it (I would think if that's the case, it would reset the time/date) or if maybe the VIC is bad.
I've seen some on eBay for not too much money but don't really want to get one of the problem is upstream somewhere.
I may just do like other and remove it.
Any thoughts?

Instead of just removing it, put a sticker over it. That way if it's a necessary piece in the wiring loop, you're still good to go, and it won't bother you again.
