This has probably already been talked about somewhere else, but I have spent an hour looking.

How does one go about figuring out what kind of axle set up they have?
I am looking to get ARB diff covers and do the fluid, of course.

I have a 2001 WJ Laredo.

go to the stealership an have them run your vin for the build sheet

What engine do you have? You have a Dana 30 front and if you have the strait 6 then you have a Dana 35 in the rear,if you have a v8 then you have the Dana 44a

4.0L all the way. So they set it standard for all WJ 4.0L for the 30 in front and 35rear? Thank you, that means I'm ordering parts soon.

not all v-8's have the dana 44a, mine has a dana 35

from the factory ALL 96-98 grand cherokee's had the Dana 44a (aluminum center section) i am not 100% sure about what year wj's had the v8, but i believe all the v8's had the Dana 44A HD (Heavy Duty). what year of grand cherokee do you have?

There was a huge thread about this on Jeepforum, and there are early production run 96's that are V8 and D35.

Well, you're 99.9% right, there are no hard and fast numbers about how many actually got outfitted that way. Someone contacted a Chrysler rep, who said it numbered only around 100.
