Tune up advice.
 

I bought a 2005 GC a few months ago. It's just about 90,000 miles so I'm going to do a full tune-up plus whats in the service book. Any preferences in brands to use for oil spark plugs filters etc. One thing that stuck out to me is that the oil sticker on the windshield said they used 5W30 but from what I've been reading it's supposed to be 5W20. Also should I use a high mileage oil or what. Thanks for all the help and input.

I plan on changing:
oil, oil filter, gas filter, air filter, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, transfer case fluids.

Try again. Are you sure you have a distributor cap?

From your post I guess I don't, I know the spark plugs don't look like my old xj. What do they have instead?

Its a coil pack. No need to replace the coil pack unless its bad. I'm don't what plugs you should get, I'm sure someone will chime in soon. But nothing wrong with getting direct oem replacement

Ok, thanks. You know anything about "Lubricate the upper knuckle ball stud at steering and suspension ball joints". I'm "googling" it now but figured I'd ask maybe save me some time.

Well incase other people didn't know, you don't really need to replace the fuel filter like regular cars according to the local Oriely guy. Some new design that you only have to replace them when the pump goes bad.

so your going to trust "some guy at O'Reilly's " to your fuel system I dont know if you know this but that "A" hole doesnt care if you get stuck on the side of the road because you listened to him....If I were I call a dealership and ask them, they would know for sure if it is a "new design" or if that part guy was just to lazy to look it up..

For oil it depends on your areas temps. 5w-30 is fine for most of the mid to southern states if your a northern state once the oil heats up to normal operating temps it may get a bit thick in the sub zero temps. I would however just stick with the owners manual on any fluids and plugs. Also change at a minimum your rear diff fluid too if you got it used don't trust it even from a dealer.

After he told me that I looked into it and verified there's no scheduled maintenance for the fuel filter. He looked it up too the oriley guys are pretty good around here. I'll do a bit more looking though incase.

Like many modern cars/trucks on the road, the fuel filter is integrated into the fuel pump assy. In other words it doesnt have one.

Dont worry about the oil weight, I would prefer 5w30 over 5w20 especially living in the south with warmer temps, but there is really not that much of a difference. Stay with a good name brand on filters like Wix or Mopar.

I have an 01 XJ with 120,000 miles. Since there is no scheduled maint for the filter should I wait until the pump fails before I switch it out? It is a little a bit of work to change out due to the fact that you have to drop the fuel tank to get to it.

Leave it untill the pump dies.
