Transmisson swap question

Transmisson swap question
I'm searching some local junk yards for a replacement transmission for my 95 ZJ 4.0 cherokee.They say they have one for cherokee but not grand cherokee.From my searching it is my understanding that all cherokees and ZJ's all have 42re's from 93.5 till about 97 or so.My question is is there and difference between the cherokee and grand cherokee transmissions,maybe electronics or something?? If i get a tranny from a 95 cherokee will it work in my 95 ZJ??Thanks for any input

Engine: 4.0 with all of the noise and clatter
The Cherokee (XJ) has an AW4 transmission, not the same as the 93.5 and up Grand Cherokee (ZJ). Swapping in an AW4 in place of the 42RE will cost you a lot of time and money with no guarantee it will work. The wiring is all different as is the transmission control unit. You're stuck with only one choice, the 42RE.
