Default Transmission advice

My trans has been stalling between first and second gear for awhile now. I have high miles so I expected to be puting in a new trans. However I read around and found one thread that said to do this http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums....php?p=3895483

I check my fluid and its a qt low. What are your opinions, my zj is a 98 with 175k and only gets driven in bad weather or off-roading.

on my 93 there was a tranny issue, before you start big , do a tranny flush and change all the fluids , if it still does it thats bad news, i ended up losing all my forward gears and replacing the tranny , it sucked but it went somewhat smoothly in the end, the new tranny was awsome and worked like a charm , be weary of the torque converter make sure its set all the way and watch the "locking splines" on the edges

make sure you clean off the magnet in the pan and clean the pan really well, theres going to be alot of metal flaking in the bottom

yeah it will have small ones, from wear. its normal , when they get big thats when you have to worry , but when you do the drain theres a small round magnet in the bottom of the pan that collects the small shavings

thanks for the opinions and advice. I'm gonna pull the pan and do the Governor Pressure Solenoid and Sensor fix. While doing this I'm also gonna replace fluid and filter, so hopefully between all that I'll fix it....hopefully.

Any more advice is welcome!

I think the solenoid your talking about is what their talking about in the link I put in the first post. That's what I'm gonna try doing. It looked overall pretty easy, knock on wood

Just a update. I just swapped out the solenoid and sensor mentioned in the link in the first post. It actually made it worse. I'm still a little low on fluid so I'm gonna pick up a bottle of lucas and pour it in with the new fluid tonight, but overall I think this is the end of Black Betty
