Default transfer case chain question

now this will probably be a dumb question but since the front driveshaft is not on the jeep (wasnt on there when we got it) is the chain needed i looked at a blown appart picture and it looks like the chain syncs the front with the rear . can i just have him remove the chain since it will only be using 2wd

Sounds like a plan. You didn't mention which transfer case you have, but the question is moot if you remove the chain. It seems like a lot of work that isn't necessary unless it's making noise or is broken. What t/c do you have? If it's the 247, the viscous clutch is probably toast, which is why the PO removed the front shaft.

You know, now that I think about it, it would be a good idea to remove it before it breaks, because if it breaks, it could chunk out the case itself. I've seen one if those and it wasn't pretty.

Lmao haha that's my video lol mine is the 231 though, yours is a 242 but yes you need to replace the transfer case chain ish...... Turned out mine wasn't stretched but the holes that the sprockets would engage on the chain had some slop/space causing that sound. Replaced it and its been quiet ever since so just get a new chain and swap it. Best thing to do
