Tranny swap? Which models will work?
 

I have a 97 Grand Cherokee 4x4, auto, 4.0 that I have to replace the tranny in. Am I correct that the only possible donor tranny's will have to be from a 94-97 Grand Cherokee that is also a 4x4, auto, and 4.0 only? I remember reading this somewhere else about the 94-97 and a guy at the dealer I guess stated only 96-97. Thanks in advance. Mike.

I'm pretty sure any 94-99 4.0 42RE will work, but you may want to call a local tranny shop and ask them to be sure.

they should all be the same. I believe that the governor pressure sensor from 98 and up is different but it should not affect the case connector. I believe only the much earlier ones had a diffeent case connector.
