Default tires and wheel size?

So I am new to really modifying my ZJ. I am looking to put on a 4" lift within the next couple of weeks. I don't want it to look ridiculous so I want to upgrade my tires and rims. I am not looking to spend a fortune but want something that will look nice and perform just as well. What size tires would fit on what size wheels? I am not familiar with any of this so I need some help. I would be willing to stick with stock rims if I found good tires that will fit. Anyone have any suggestions on sizes? Again I am new to this so the more help the better.

Your factory rim size is 15" so any tire ending with the number 15 will fit. I would stay away from anything metric and just get a 31x10.50x15. Also, you can find black steelies, with more offset and a little bit wider, online for around $200.

I personally like the look of TJ Rubicon Moabs on our ZJs but they are 16's which makes tires more expensive. Black steelies are always a good option if you are wanting to stick with 15's

Some ZJs came with 16s and if yours did and you want to stick with stock rims a 245/75/16 fits really well. It measures right at 31" tall.

Did they have larger brakes or was it just an aesthetic thing?

You can use your stock wheels or 15x8 wheels, you just pick what you want. I like mine offset different from what the factory was. I like mine so I have 1/2" to 1" of the wheel out of the fender. Not sure what mine is. 31" tires work very well offroad with a 4" lift and you can even run 32" tires with a little bit of trimming so they don't rub any when it is flexed. I have friends that are running 33" tires with a 4" lift but they did a lot of trimming so they would not rub any while offroading and flexing. They don't look bad as long as you don't mind doing some cutting. I am running 31" tires with right at a 2" lift but, I had to do a little bit of trimming on the bumper cover.

Same brakes guess it's an aesthetic thing. They did it on some XJs too.

Okay, that answers a question I had. My WJ has 245/70R16's on it and they measure 29.5" tall. I wondered how tall the 75's were. Now I know. Thanks.

About an inch taller. 30.4" There are calculators online, just google for them or you can figure it out yourself, the math is not very difficult

Yeah, I know. I'm just lazy I guess. I'll need new tires next fall and was just wondering what to buy. I bought General Grabber AT2's last winter and love them, but I couldn't afford to take them off for the summer. I have about 20K miles on them now and they are about 1/2 worn. I had Firestone Winterforce on my ZJ which worked well and lasted longer, but I wanted something a little more aggressive. I guess 30K on a set of tires isn't that bad.

If I go with anything bigger, I'll need a lift, so I'm just ruminating in my mind as to what to do. My problem with a lift is reaching people's paper tubes. Some of them are so low now I have trouble and snow makes it worse.
