Tick/Rattle/Loud Noise
I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L with 208,000 miles on it, I got it with 199,000 miles on it and have replaced wheel bearings, and axil assembly's but for a while now it's been doing this...
While driving at high rpm "right before shifting or while in the middle of shifting" it'll rattle tap tap tap then it will be normal.
Last night we got rear ended and it scraped a little paint but the hitch took a big hit so we got knocked pretty good, after that hit we've been having a loud knock, tic, tap, rattle sound all the time.
It sounds like it is coming from the Front Passenger Side from under the engine bay. It isn't always a consistent beat it sometimes sounds like it is completely random but it def speeds up the sound if RPM's go up and gets really loud sometime where you can hear it from inside the house but sometimes it gets a little quieter but that's not common now. With this being my only vehicle I can't tear down the engine and slap it back together in a few days but just need to know where to start, I'll upload a video of the Jeep making this noise in a few.

To start off, this is an internal problem... meaning you may have to tear into the engine at some point. For now if you can get your hands on a mechanics stethoscope and try to pinpoint the location of the knock.

Old fart with a wrench
Before you tear into the engine, check to see if your torque convertor bolts are tight. I've seen them still driving on one loose bolt.
IMHO, it sounds to me like a cracked piston skirt because it sounds like it's every other crank revolution, not every one. I don't think the collision hit had anything to do with it.
