T-case swap problems

So I bought this 96 grand Cherokee a month ago, it had a busted transfer case in it and a transmission that had supposedly been rebuilt within the last sixty thousand miles. I found a new case for it that I was told was out of a 2001 or 2002 and I put it in. First off the sensor that controls the 4x4 indicator has threads that are quite a bit shorter than my old one and the plugs are different..it seems that when I put the longer one in from the old case I have issues shifting the case. Also depending on what gear the t-case is in..when I go to put the trans into drive, I have to stand on the brake to keep it from moving and when I do get moving it changes gears very hard..I’ve played around with the TV cable, all fuses are good and the trans fluid level is good..so I’m not really sure where to go from here.. I’d just like to get it on the road.
