Strange Problem
I have an 04 WJ with 102000 mi and a 4.0. It started at any speed the surging the engine rpm's stay up but the speedo drops to nothing and it quits putting power out the tranny kind of like pushing in on the clutch rapidly while going down the road, but i have an auto also when you come to a stop some times it will die but if you put it in neutral then stop it will stay idleing sometimes when it surges the low fuel light will come on even if i have a full tank of. I think it is electrical but was wondering if anyone had any ideas. Alson sometimes after a stop it will start in 2nd or it will not shift into overdrive
Thanks in advance for all your help

Where does the speedo get its power from? If the engine dies for a split second will the power be killed t the speedo so i notice it drop and not the rpms? Just left work and our parking lot is full of mud puddles and i did not think i was going to make it home could water be getting into something and shorting it out? Now that i think about it the problem started after our last big snow and we have not dried out since also when i hit a bump sometimes the problem will instantly stop or start.

narrowed the probloem down to wires, not sur which one though.
The main wiring harness that runs along the passenger side of the head had alot of play in it so i zip tied it up yesterday and all my problems went away. Does anybody know if there is a problematic wire or connector that would have to due with that???

if you secured the harness and the problem went away then i would think there is a chafed wire in there somewhere that is grounding out against the body or another wire. time to dig in to the harness in the area and look for suspect wires.
