Strange no start condition

Hi all,

I know there's a few threads on this topic, but I didn't find any that were similar to the problem I'm having.

I have a 1993 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0L. It has been sitting for about a year (it ran fine when it was parked), and now it won't start easily, and if it does, it will only run for a few seconds and then die, as if the cap and rotor were pulled out. It doesn't putter out as if it's running out of fuel. It literally acts as if the key was turned off.

Also, I noticed the check engine light doesn't come on with the key. During cranking, it may flash intermittently. I can't read any codes because of that.

The tach needle also goes haywire when the key is turned on. If the motor starts, it operates fine. All the other gauge needles act properly.

The cap and rotor are new, as is the battery, coil and the neutral safety switch.

I have measured the resistance of the crank sensor, and it comes up infinite between the b & C terminals, which I believe means it's okay.

Is there something I'm overlooking here? Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

PCM may be bad - i have a 93 & 98 grand and just replaced coil, alt, and pcm on my 93 - pcm was the last thing i checked. I noticed the fuel pump relay wouldn't click and pump with spin in the tank... hmm - computer! i opened the pcm and noted the rotten red gel sealant and sent it away to a auto computer rebuild center - 225$ ;-/

works fine now

230,000 miles on the 93
