Default Straight Piping

So my zj 4.0 is straight piped and I turned it down under the passenger floor board. Sounds like a v8 but its a little poppy. Should I let it be or would running the pipe all the way to the back eliminate the poppiness. Thanks guys

If you put a real exhaust on it than you will get rid of the popping noise and gain some power.

I dont really want an exhaust I like the low rumble of the stright pipe, but the little pop in it sounds kind of weird

I've tried 14 different exhaust setups on my rig. That includes three variations of straight piping. My 2.5" magnaflow catback system from WWW.performance-curve.com is by far the best setup I've had. Once it gets broken in it gives you a nice deep rumble with absolutely no raspyness. I would highly recommend putting a true exhaust on your Jeep... it's better for the motor, gives you more power (straight piping a non boosted motor will almost always decrease power), sounds much better, and wont attract unwanted police attention. Not to mention that your neighbors would thank you.

Getting back to the original question, yes, running the exhaust all the way out the back will take out some of the popping and tone it down just a bit. I cut my rusty muffler off and it was about a week before I could get a pipe in place, and it definitely toned it down just a bit. I ran this way for awhile and it sounds ok, but it drove me batty pretty quickly.
