Hi dad! Welcome to CF!

That looks like a rear main seal leak to me. It may be just the pan gasket. It's hard to tell for sure until you get the converter cover off.

cool

that was fast
thanks for the welcome.I found this when investigating what I thought was an oil leak?I thought maybe the recent oil change was poorly done at the shop. I am leaking a lot of fluid from this site and less, slightly foward near the drain plug.the protruding metal seemed out of place?little car mechanic experience.however,i have some confidence and mechanical ability. also seems fun?,intriguing, straight foward on this vehicle.she is my first

You just caught me coming on-line, lol!

Before you go tearing into it, check the valve cover for leaking down the back of the block. Sometimes it will look the same. Easiest way to tell is wipe it with your hand behind the head and if it's really wet, there's a good chance the valve cover is leaking.

Planning on tackling my valve cover gasket this weekend..... never done it before but watched a few you tube videos and I'm sure I can handle it. Bought the Felpro gasket the other day so that's a start. :)

Any tips to make it easier?
