Question "Smoked" Headlights Recomendations

I have a 98 ZJ, and I'd like to get some smoked or black headlights for it. Does anybody here use them or have any they recomend. Sometimes I think they look good and other times I think they look ridiculous. I don't want to get something that looks like they were made for a ghetto sled.

I think most people try to improve the light output on these not darken them out, ZJ headlamps suck bad enough in stock form. You might also check local laws to make sure its legal. I really have nothing wrong with them and they can look good on some vehicles but I dont understand why some would want to darken something thats suppose to lighten the road.

x2 why darken something that is supposed to light up the road??? lmao seems dumb to me depending on how dark you go, but if you just did a light coloring it might not look bad,

i was thinking of buying a brand new set and using my paint gun with clear and a small amount of black paint in it to give it a minor grey look so it blends a little better into the smoked corners.... i saw a mustang a while back that looked good

You don't wear sunglasses at night, so why darken someting that is there to LIGHT UP the road? Stupid idea.

i think if you want the dark look, try finding a set of headlight housings that have blacked housings, so it gives the blackened look but still keep all your lighting ability during the day

Here's a nifty concept some people could try and this forum... Try to answer someone's question, NOT tell them how stupid it is.

We'll see how you feel when some jackhole slams into your parked rig because he couldn't see due to his cool looking blacked out headlamps.

Have you thought about headlights covers? There is a wj in my apartment complex that's black with headlights covers that looks sick. At night, just pop them off. http://www.ebay.com/itm/150828547725

I suggest doing the headlight covers also. Tinting your headlights will worsen the light output, and we all know as ZJ owners the stock headlights suck as is!

Thanks for all the thoughtful suggestions! I was not impying I wanted to "tint" the headlights. I was thinking of something like this.

Its not mine but a fellow member over at thespeedfreaks.net. Weird that the credit to it didnt show up.

Take it from me that those lights still lose out on some of the light output. I have similar ones.

I ended up going with HIDs in mine and the glare isnt as bad as the stock housings. Its a clear lense so that doesnt scatter the light output and the top and bottom are black so they dont reflect the light from there either.

HIDs horrible cellphone pic:

I tossed a set in mine from 1aauto.com They are the stock ones, I ended up using the Silver Star Ultras in them. They work great at night.
