Slipping trans

Can I use a trans from a 97 Cherokee sport, in a 99 grand Cherokee Laredo?

Nope. The 99 is a 42re or a 45rfe and shifts with a cable. I believe the 97 Cherokee Sport uses the AW4 (?) and shifts with linkage. The VSS is internal to the trans on the 99 also, not in the t/case.
