Shocks and Shackles
Hi All,
Need some advice!
It's a 1998 grand Cherokee with 140K on it and no lift or major mods.
Its my DD and very rarely goes off road.
Need to replace all the shocks and I think the springs have gone soft.
Can I use and if yes what type do I need shackles to give me a better ride, slightly higher ride?
If I use shackles do I buy OEM size shocks or do I need longer?
Basically I need a lesson on shackles and shocks and where's the best place to get them from ?
I don't want to pay silly money for them.
Thanks

our jeeps dont have shackles.... shackles are used when there are leaf springs in the rear. the ZJ has coil springs/shocks front and rear. i cant really give you any advice on where to go cause im pretty new to the jeep world myself, so im doing a little research myself. but you will need 4 coil springs and 4 shocks if you want to replace them

I got 1" lift spring coils from OME and shocks from Skyjacker, my car is much better/stiffer on the road. I'm from Norway so the cars we normaly use are much stiffer than US cars. But i do miss the "float" feeling when driving ;-) I had a litle bigger winter tire on it to. I dont know if i would have replaced the springs if i should have used is as a my daily car, but maybe, it looks better to :-) I ordered it from jeep4x4center.com

You can use coil spacers, but as stated above you don't have shackles since grands are coil sprung. Spacers lifts are pretty cheap, I think I've seen some sets as cheap as $60. As for shocks, if you're not gonna wheel it, factory length should be fine.
