Default Shifting issues

Hello all. I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee that is stock. My torque converter went out so I paid a guy to replace it. It wasn’t a shop. Just a cheap guy in his garage type of thing. Now i can’t start the Jeep in park but starts in neutral. To shift to drive I have to shift down to second then back to drive and it is very loose. Also park won’t engage at all. To get to reverse I go to park then slide back down to reverse. I have read a few threads about adjusting the linkage but none of them said anything about play in the shifter itself. It never did this before he dropped the trans. Also he won’t fix it.

Yeah he broke it. All those issues relate to the adjustment of the shift cable.
