Service 4 wheel drive switch

Service 4 wheel drive switch
My 94 ZJ keeps saying to service the 4 wheel drive switch. What is this? I am a good mechanic but have never really messed with 4 wheel drive. What does the switch do and where is it so I can replace it?

I don't think so either. It was doing it once in a blue moon but I just snapped a tie rod and since I put the new one on, it's doing it al the time now. It also is binding when I turn. It's also done this since i've owned it but its gotten worse. I think I need to change the transfer case.
