Scheduled Maintenance
I have no idea where to post this, so how about here...
When school gets out, I would like to replace all the fluids in my Grand and rotate the tires and such.
The shocks also need replaced very badly. I am just a kid and dont want to spend the extra $ to have them installed if I could do it myself. How hard is it to do that. If I was to raise the Jeep from the frame, can they just be unbolted with no problems or will they be under tension?
Also, when would it be best to replace the timing chain. I have heard horror stories of those things breaking while going 60 mph and destroying the engine... My 4.0 has about 95,000.
And what shocks would you recomend. I dont plan on any wheeling. I live on a dirt road and would like a smooth ride on highways too... I really dont want to spend $250 for shocks either, but I do want nice ones. What do you folks think of Monroes?

replacing shocks are vary easy. Really nothing to it. I got Skyjackers and it made for a vary nice ride. Bilstein's are vary good but they kind of alot of money.

As far as stock shocks go, what is the difference between standard and up country?

david...what, did you get sick of us?..lol...dude,shocks could not be easier just take off the old ones and put on the new ones and don't worry about your timing chain, they are not as suseptable to wear as timing belts,i believe there is NO scheduled maintenance/replacement on them.
btw,your jeep does not have a frame,lol..later

Hey Seed, hows it going... Havent talk to you for a while...I still go to NAGCA, just not as much. I just reply to the Chit- Chat and try to stir up the pot in the political chatter... nothing too technical... I mostly just read other posts and learn from there... and check out the classifieds...

Up-Countries came with high pressure gas shocks, stiffer rate springs, and a spacer mounted above the springs to give 1" increased ride height over regular suspension. That plus the tow hooks and skid plates.

But the Upcountry shocks would fit with the stocks springs? If they did, would that be a little bumpy?

IF the shocks are longer(i'm not for sure they are) the only problem i could see would be bottoming them out when stuffing a tire, which you probably won't be doing, lol. If you want stiffer/less expensive shocks,i've always been a fan of the pro comp nitro's.
