Rough Country 4" owners

A friend of mine has a 97 ZJ, we have the RC 4" (the new one with the heim joints), its a lot beefier then the old style twisty arm ones.
After fighting the front end for over 12 hours with only 1 jack and a bottle jack we got the whole front bolted up.

its got the 249 xfercase and a CV axle pinion. its cracking and popping as you drive it. Went to a JY got a Ujoint style drive shaft from a v8 Zj.
going back to the JY today to get the Pinion yoke out of the dana 30.
Do we have count the spines on the yoke or are they the same on all ZJ's?
also.. the driveshaft came off a 97 zj v8 with the 242. will the drive shaft bolt up to 249 xfercase's yoke?

Thanks
Mark

oh yeah..
what size shocks do you need up front. The ones we got were too short.
When measuring the shock length.. you take the old shocks measure from eye to end of shock bolt? or end of shock tube?

Stock + 4" more right?

So how much extra "droop" do you need for when flexing on a rock and the axle droops?

Thanks
Mark

If you have a stud mount on top, then you measure from between the rubber mounts to the center of the bottom mount with the shock extended. Don't go over 1" extra on the droop or you will have to extend your bump stops down further to keep the shocks from bottoming out.

same year, splines should be the same but 242 shaft will probably be a different length than 249

the shaft might not be the bad tho...do you have everything dialed in right

bolted the Ujoint style drive shaft right up to the front!
direct bolt up.. i was happy to see that..
he ended up going with some 28" skyjacker nitro shocks..

Right now he s riding back home with no front shocks and no alignment and no death wobble! im amazed!
drive line vibes but they will go away once its aligned..

The RC heim joints rock!
the instructions suck rocks!

total time... roughly 20 hours .. to get drill bits and bolts and right tools
with air tools and doing it again.. it can be done in 6-8 hours.

i ll stick to liftin TJ's and Xj's..

thanks for yalls help!
