Hey I'm having sorta the same issue, but mine has a couple of corks about it.
01 Jeep Cherokee hard to start when warm, not hot, not cold, warm. Black tail pipe, sluggish response, hates hills, back fires every once in a while.... is this the fuel pump? The dealership I bought the Jeep from said they changed it.

I have a 96 XJ and the sending unit and the Reg/filter is a 01 G cherokee type...after hours at auto zone and oriellys with no luck looking up cherokee parts I now know what to tell them to look up...thanks to this thread
