Rebuild
Ok, the block has been machined on my 2000 4.0. Here's the parts I have :
Master Rebuild Kit, new ProMaxx head, head bolts, ss engine bolt kit, 2 row radiator, water pump, power steering pump, crankshaft pulley & sensor, belt tensioner & belt, thermostat, injectors, fan clutch, and Banks Torque Tubes. Have I forgotten anything? Had the intake bead blasted, everything will be painted with EastWay paint. Machine shop said not to clear coat intake. What should I do about that? They said the clear coat would yellow. Getting close, I'm excited! |
Yes, there are a couple of things.
New throttle body base gasket Injector O-rings Spark plug insulator boots and springs New plugs Any vacuum hoses that are rubber New CPS. it's good insurance Radiator and heater hoses, clamps Thermostat Motor mounts Valve lifters Camshaft if the lobes are rounded Check valve rockers and mounting saddles for cracks and wear. That's enough for now. |

nice man, i myself plan on rebuilding my 99' 4.0, i was just wondering what kind of rebuild kit you are running and how much you spent on it. of course the obvious isn't to buy the crap eBay rebuild kit, but my question is has anyone used the DNJ rebuild kit? price wise its the middle of the road, i believe its around 500$ but doesn't come with a cam, rock auto, jc whitney sell it as their rebuild kits, just wondering if anyone has anything good or bad to say about the DNJ kit. thanks.

Personally, I wouldn't buy ANYTHING from E-bay or Amazon. I get almost all of my parts from rockauto and with 28 orders in 4 years, I've NEVER gotten the wrong part or a bad one. Another good one is Morris 4x4 center.

I got the rebuild kit from Titan Engines (645.00) & the head from Quadratec, (682.00)
|
ok thanks, jc whitney offers the kit with a price match (so ill get it at the rock auto price) and a 12k mile and 1 year warranty, i just want to make sure if i buy this kit i won't get screwed, it seems to be a good brand, i believe its a chinese brand but they appear to be good parts. the warranty helps, heres the kit http://www.jcwhitney.com/dnj-oe-repl...&skuId=6391248 if you are interested. but it looks like i may want to invest in a cam and new lifters as well for the rebuild. thanks again.

Hey Guys:
Just a FYI, the ProMaxx head was shipped in a thin cardboard box, FedEx guy evidently dropped it. Will be checking for damage later today. So be careful if you order one. I probably wouldn't have ordered it if I had of known that. |
Funny you should say that. My Odessa head was delivered by Fedex and deposited in my driveway. The box was double thick corrugated with multiple staples and the inside packing was sliced up cardboard rolled up and stuffed in tight with 4 layers on the bottom AND the head itself was in a heavy plastic bag. He left it in my driveway because he didn't want to carry it up 4 steps! Shipping weight 85 lbs.
