Default Rear Wiper Stopped Working

Not working from any position - Interval, On or Wash Spray. Front wiper is fine, as are all other electrical functions. If this is a switch problem, what's the repair cost likely to be? Thanks.

2002 Grand Cherokee Laredo. Is a motor also a possibility?

On my 1996 GC it was about $70 for the rear wiper pump. Easy to install. You may have to check on your model if it has a rear washer pump or not.

It could be the wiper motor, it could be the switch. This is where a little something called diagnostics comes into play. Check the fuse, if it's blown, replace it and see what happens. If it's not blown, check for voltage at the switch. If you have power going in and nothing going out, you have a switch problem. If that checks out OK, check for voltage at the motor. If you have power at the motor and it no worky, guess what the problem is.

Thanks Bustedback. GitRDunn, it's not the washer pump - I'm getting fluid, just no wiper action.

Yes, seriously! As noted, I'm a newbie. I'm sorry I offended you.

The switch is on the dash and the wiper motor is in the liftgate.

I never said anything about a washer pump. Re-read what I typed. On some models the wiper motor also has a washer pump built in. Mine did not. Just suggesting to you look on your's to order correct part IF that is the issue and not the switch or bad wire, fuse, etc.

Here's something you might consider. My 2000 WJ's wiper arm is either worn or not aligned right because the blade gets caught under the edge of the glass and won't turn on. If I get out and release it, it works well until I open and slam the hatch closed again. then it won't work until I release to blade. there is a cam and ramp on the arm and hatch that's supposed to prevent this from happening, but it doesn't.

remember everything that is electronic in you vehicle requires power, so one way to see if you need a motor is to hook up a 12v battery to the rear wiper motor connection unplug the connection and probe the connection with two leads on positive one negative but only do if for a couple of seconds because the wiper will turn on super fast! also if you have a voltmeter or tester find the ground with the continuity alarm function then use the ground off the battery to the ground you found with the tester, then probe for your positive.
