Rear Axle Seals
Hi all. I have 2000 Jeep GC Loredo that needs both rear axle seals replaced. Can't afford $700-$800 considering that I'll have to do the brakes and other things too. Is anybody willing to provide or point me to a step by step procedure? I have access to any tools I would need. Thanks much.

First we'll need to ID which rear axle you have. Could be a D35 or a D44, inwhich case will dictate how to replace these seals. Can you take a clear pic of the rear axle's differential cover?
In either case you will have to pull the axleshafts. Where they differ is the 44 "should" have the seal and bearing pressed onto the shaft itself, whereas the D35 will have the bearing and seal pressed into the housing end.
The axle type will detremine what tools you'll need.

Rear axle seals
Thanks. The Haynes Manual Table of Contents doesn't appear to include what I need to do. Am I missing something?
I'll check on D35 vs D44 ASAP.

Does this help? Shot in the dark...
